Rooted and grounded in love…

Jan Richardson’s “Getting Grounded”

Sunday School for children and youth begins in just over a week.

This year, our theme comes from that  much-loved prayer in Ephesians 3:

I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love.

I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Please join me in praying for the children in our Sunday School program.  I have high hopes for the coming year as almost 100 of Holy Family’s children and youth will gather each week to play, read, imagine, and pray together.  We’ll spend the last ten minutes of each Sunday School hour in song.

Even when everyone is on time, though, Sunday School lasts less than an hour every week.  A seminary classmate of mine, Nurya, writes here about the importance of making our homes places of spiritual formation.  In that spirit, this blog exists to help you “follow up” on what your child engages with in Sunday School .  Visit to find out what we’re reading and discussing in our children’s Sunday School  classes, and how you and your family might continue reading, playing, imagining, and praying the whole week through.
